Fiji - Beautiful & Inspiring

Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to spend some days in Fiji. A beautiful place with wonderful people, and even though no one says it, most Fijians are of African descent! So, African people got to Fiji (and Australia, as it seems Aborigines are African descendants too) way before the Europeans. And books don't say that! I believe it is about time that we learn that history does not need to diminish or ignore others' ( women, black people, Asians) achievements to feel great and superior.

Seeing that Africans got to this paradise long ago was a fabulous and empowering surprise! And not as slaves. On top of it, I was "almost" able to blend in - Fijians said I looked Fijian. The only thing betraying me was my clothing - the Brazilian in me believes in color, short skirts, tiny bikinis, and cleavage. Meanwhile, Fijians, despite the hot weather, tend to cover up.

Other than African descendants, Fiji also has a significant Asian Indian and Chinese population, which adds different cultures and awesome food to the islands!

I went to Fiji by myself, and I couldn't feel safer. They have gun control, and most of all, they are a peaceful community. Everybody is very welcoming and helpful. If you ask for directions, they immediately offer to accompany you to your destination.

Bula is the word we use to say hi in Fiji. And we say "bula" to everybody!! I never asked the meaning of the word, but I read that it means life and a blessing of health and happiness. It could not be better.

So if you dream about going to South Pacific, Fiji is a paradise! And you will have more than 300 islands to explore! I only had time to go to Viti Levu, so I landed in Nadi. I stayed in Pacific Harbour and had the chance to visit Suva and its museum. I guess there is not need to say that Fiji will be in my heart forever!!
